After applying for an e-passport online, the passport has to go through several stages before it is issued. If you have already applied, you can check the current status of your passport application online. What do the different passport statuses mean? And what should you do at each status stage? Let’s find out.
Application Submitted: This status appears after completing the passport application online. At this stage, you need to visit the passport office with all necessary documents to provide biometric data.
Appointment Scheduled: This status means that a time has been allocated for your appointment at the passport office. The date and time are usually mentioned along with this status. This generally applies to major regional passport offices, such as in Dhaka.
Payment verification result – Name mismatch: There is a discrepancy between the spelling of the name used during the bank deposit and the spelling of the name on your passport application form. This is a serious issue because it prevents verification of your identity. Therefore, you must immediately contact your passport office and submit a copy of your passport payment receipt along with your birth certificate or national ID card.
Your application is pending payment investigation (Amount mismatch or reference number mismatch): The amount of money you deposited for the passport does not match the amount stated in your passport application form. The passport office has found that the amount you mentioned was entered incorrectly. This is a problem, so you are required to visit the passport office and submit your passport payment receipt. If you fail to do so, your passport application may be canceled.
Enrolment in Process: Your application and other documents are being reviewed at the passport office. If everything is correct, this process is usually completed within 2 to 3 days. However, in some cases, it may take more than 10 days.
Pending for Backend Verification: Pending for Backend Verification” means the information you provided in your passport application is being verified at the central level. Before the passport office sends your application to the printing branch in Dhaka, they want to ensure that all the details are accurate. This is usually not a problem and is generally completed within 2-3 days.
This verification process checks the following:
- Your name, address, date of birth, nationality, etc.
- The validity of your passport
- Whether your current application data matches any previously issued passport
- If there are any errors in your application
If any mistakes are found in your application, you may be asked to correct them.
If the backend verification remains pending for an extended period, you will need to visit the passport office with the correct documents and resolve the specific issue that is causing the delay.
Pending AD/DD approval: Your passport documents are being reviewed by the Assistant Director or Deputy Director. This stage is usually completed within 5 to 6 days. However, if it takes more than three weeks, it may indicate that your police verification report has not yet reached the passport office. In such a case, you may contact the SI (Sub-Inspector) of your local police station to complete the police clearance process.
Approved: Your application has been accepted. It will now proceed to the printing stage according to standard procedure.
In Printer Queue: Your passport is in the printing section and is waiting to be printed. Depending on the availability of passport booklets and the functioning of the printing machines, this process may take 2–3 working days or more.
Printing Succeeded: Your passport has been successfully printed and is being sent to the Quality Control (QC) section for inspection.
QC succeeded, ready for dispatch: After successful printing, your passport book is being checked by the Quality Control section to ensure there are no errors in the printing. Once everything is confirmed to be correct at this stage, your passport is prepared for dispatch to the office where you applied.
Passport is Ready, Pending for Issuance: It may take 4 to 5 days for the passport to reach your requested passport office from the Dhaka passport head office. Once it arrives at the office, it becomes ready for delivery.
When this status appears, it means your passport is on its way to your local passport office.
An SMS will be sent to your mobile when it’s ready for collection. If you don’t receive the SMS, please wait 2 working days.
Passport Issued: Your passport has already been delivered to the applicant. When the applicant collects the passport, fingerprints and a signature are taken, and the system is updated to reflect that the passport has been issued.
